In the internet business there's a saying that goes something like "traffic is the key." As you know in order to make sales you have to have customers. Internet advertising is helped, actually driven by the search engines. The higher you rank on the search engine for a give entry the more people will visit your site. This is because people are lazy and don't want to work to find what they want to find. It also makes sense because everyone thinks that the top results are the most applicable to what they want, and this is the idea. What is a traffic rotator? How can you benefit from using a traffic rotator? How is effective split testing used with traffic rotators? A traffic rotator is very useful tool when utilized properly.

A traffic rotator is a link where you can insert multiple links within itself. So everytime your click on the the rotator link, it will cycle thru all the links your put into the rotator link evenly. If you are promoting more than one program or running more than one advertisement at a time, this can be very useful and time effective. All you need to do when you want to change your link rotation is change one or more of the links in your traffic rotator url. This feature is used by the majority of marketers online however, traffic rotators can be used for a more important tactic.

Traffic rotators are one of the best ways to split test your links to find out which ones are the most effective with pulling in sales or double opin subscribers. Lets say that you have 5 links in a traffic rotator and they all are geared toward getting optin subscribers.

If your redirect url is tracked with yoursite.com/track2 more than the other tracked redirects than you will see which rotator link is performing better than the others. Now you can promote that more effective rotator link and delete the other less effective ones.
This is one way to effectively split test your sites and save yourself time and money looking for productive links and sales copy.

Not tracking your ads is ultimately costing your money. If you are able to promote an effective ad for a prolonged period of time and create sales without any additional effort besides advertising then you are doing yourself a huge favor.

So take the time to split test your ads, it doesn't take very long and does not take much effort but reaps huge rewards.

A Traffic /Hit Echanges is an advertising medium where if you agree to look at the ads of others then they will see yours. Not ads actually but your website. From the psychological standpoint all the other sites are already involved with something so why would they sign up for something you are advertising but you can choose the category of the type of sites you will be looking at and the type of people who will be looking at yours. For example if your site was selling appliances then in the category section, when setting up the details of your site, you would choose shopping.

Plus even if they are involved with something already they still might like to look at other possibilities. I've noticed that most Interent Marketers are all involved in multiple streams of income. If your website copy is good then people will look past the landing page, which this also pertains to free classified sites and FFA site is if your headline is good enough to grab people attention then the likelihood of positive results are even greater.

Now a lot of people may be saying that these exchanges are as useless as FFA sites but I have seen a lot of marketers who are making full time income's on the Net using these Exchanges and these people will only make use of advertising that are producing results. In their earlier days a lot of people would just keep IE running displaying these other sites but nowadays you have to view a site for anywhere from 10 seconds to half a minute then click on a specific image in order to advance to the next site. Now there are still ways to use these Exchanges and get results without having to shell out any money for the purchase of credits. I use a tabbed Browser that I got from a freeware site and I have a different Exchange on each tab. Sometimes I may have a dozen or more exchanges running at the same time. The way i do this is after one exchange asks me to find a certain icon and I click on it i then tab one over and do this on the next eaxchange. I think one night I actually earned apriximately 400 credits per exchange on 4 different exchanges. This only took a few hours but I had nothing else going on at the time.

Now on a few exchanges that i though were pretty effective I have purchased extra credits which are not expensive at all. maybe about $10 for 1,000= credits which if the exchange had a 5:1 ratio would translate into 200 displays of my site which can be a lot cheaper than PPC.. I also want to add that if your Webpage has a good design that invites viewers want to get more information then those 200 displays of your site could turn into 20 to 40 people wanting to be added to your list of subscribers, or shoppers, or future clients and if they like your site then they may tell others thus creating a viral effect.

There are many very effective ways to advertise your business online and equally, there are some highly dubious methods too!

While I usually prefer to focus on positive subjects for my articles, the merry-go-round of the traffic exchange "industry" is something I feel I have a duty to warn you of. If you're new to marketing your business online then you've been doing some searches here and there, trying to find ways of "getting out there".

You've discovered that there's a million and one different websites making fantastic claims and promising the earth! Whilst most traffic exchanges don't claim to be able to make you a millionaire, they do claim to be able to send you untold numbers of "hot prospects". This is what I have a problem with – the quality of the traffic is almost always very poor.

No doubt you've discovered a few of these traffic exchanges yourself. Why don't they work?

The giveaway is in the name but first a little history will help you understand the context in which traffic exchanges have come to exist. Back in the primordial days of the internet, at least as long ago as 2001, the first traffic exchange was born. It was a beautiful concept and it worked very well. Users signed up and agreed to view or "surf" other members' pages. As the user surfed, so credits built up which were used to display the users site across the network.

Because this concept was new, it worked fantastically well. It was a great way to get traffic to your new site. Then, inevitably, the business model was copied. The traffic exchange "industry" was now upon us. There seemed to be a new exchange being released every week. Different exchanges had different surf/display ratios. All the same people joined all the same exchanges.

Let's jump right back into the present. With a little research, it won't take you long to find out that these days it's the search engines driving more than 80% of the traffic on the internet. The only people using traffic exchanges are new webmasters and people trying to find a free way of promoting their website.

Look at this user base for a minute.

No-one is interested in what you have to sell. All they care about (just like you) is getting traffic to their own website. People who still insist on using the exchanges have devised ways of surfing more than 15 exchanges simultaneously, never spending more than a second or two on one site. This all adds up to nobody really seeing your page and equates to a very poor return on your investment – that investment being time, your most precious commodity.

Traffic exchanges began when SEO was a term that had not even been coined. With the rise and rise of Google, the other engines playing catch-up and many smaller niche directories now appearing on the scene, the overriding focus in this day and age is search engine optimisation or SEO. When you see the awesome power of a top listing in Google, the traffic exchange "industry" becomes a complete farce.

Then the final nail in the coffin. The robots!

Since a traffic exchange relies on a piece of software to distribute the traffic around the network, there is always going to be the potential to design a piece of software that can cheat the system. These "bots" are available to buy if you look around.

Enough robots can effectively make a traffic exchange completely useless and they regularly do. No matter how much "cheat protection" the exchange owner implements, some savvy coder will always find a way around it. It's quite probable that the only winners in the traffic exchange game are the people running the robots – they get tons of free traffic! A clever exchange owner can also carve a living out it, if they try really hard.

So I have some very good reasons to warn you against using the traffic exchange and first hand experience of this industry too (I experimented with the exchanges for way too long). If you're new to this internet marketing thing then please take my advice – don't waste your time.

Concentrate on search engine optimisation. Concentrate on giving something of value away for nothing if you can. This has the effect of getting other people to link to your site since you are providing a resource. Links into your site raise your popularity. In my book I show you some great software programs available which will help you build a web property that is really worth something. That's where the fun begins.

In my opinion you must forget about traffic exchanges. Stop click – click – clicking and start – link – link – linking.

Traffic Exchanges – Are They Worth the Effort?

There are advertisements, articles and more that all state how great these traffic exchanges are. But are they really worth the time and effort they require? Will you really get a lot of traffic and if you do get traffic, is it good, purchasing traffic?

There are many traffic exchanges; TS25, Traffichits, Traffic Swarm, TrafficG, etc… If you can think of a subject there is probably a traffic exchange named after it – there's even Mafia Traffic and Dead hits. The basic idea is that you click on a website and watch it for 10-30 seconds and for every 1-3 sites you view 1 person will view your site. This can be quite tedious as to get a sizable amount of traffic you must view an awful lot of websites.

Most of these traffic exchanges have come up with an upsell from the free traffic exchange. For a set fee around $10-$30 per month you get 1,000 or so free credits and a quicker timer or a better conversion 1:2 instead of 1:3 or similar. The problem here is that most of this traffic is seen as robotic by the search engines so it will ot help much in your ranking. This traffic is also people just like you trying to get traffic. Very, very few will have any interest in your product or site and most will click right through to the next screen. So yours doesn't even fuully load – in other words they won't even see your site. Yes, there are sales made through the traffic exchanges, but it is so low of a conversion that you must really visit tens of thousands of pages for each conversion/sale.

Most traffic exchanges do have a virulence aspect built in which can help, but just like with Mary Kay and any MLM program, only the first program participants will reap much from this. You need a huge downline for it to be worth your time and this can take a long time to build. Just like Mary Kay, there are only 10 or so people per exchange getting most of the results. The rest are basically wasting their time and helping others (their sponsors) to get rich.

There are better ways to spend your time. Write articles and submit them to sites like ezinearticles for maximum readership. This will give you traffic that is virulent and long lasting. And it isn't a scam like MLM, its just you and your site links getting all the benefits. If you write interesting and helpful articles you will get great, targeted traffic. Ezinearticles even has numerous pages devoted to help you learn what to write and how to writ it to get maximum effect. You can also do press releases and word of mouth through forums and other free sites. In the long run you will do much better. Traffic exchanges are a waste of time. Don't take my word for it – try them and you'll see why I'm right.
